Vehicle Installation Technician
Location:PROCOMM - Northern Virginia
FT/PT Status:Full Time
  
Job Description:

As an Installation Technician, your primary job is to assess, program, install, troubleshoot, maintain, remove, and service two-way mobile radios, repeaters, tablets, wireless modems, speakers, lights, sirens, center consoles, antennas, other accessories, and all necessary wiring into customer vehicles. These vehicles include police cruisers, K-9 vehicles, fire trucks, ambulances, public works plow trucks, school buses, tow trucks and an array of other commercial vehicles. You will be responsible for exceeding our customers' expectations and fulfilling our company's needs. Our Installation Technicians are directly responsible for keeping our communities' public safety, education, and public works departments communicating. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Understand and fully utilize service software as is required to execute your job
  • Receive a task and complete job tasks as assigned by the Service Coordinator
  • Intelligently plan and install two-way radios and related equipment into different types of vehicles
  • Ability to properly diagnose and correct a charge guard/power drain/ no power issue
  • Be familiar with center consoles to include the different brands, radio brackets, filler plates, etc.
  • Assist a Sales Representative or Service Coordinator in assessing equipment needs for quoting a vehicle install
  • Program portable and mobile radios using correct software and cables
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair/replace antenna lines, power lines, and antennas
  • Run RF cabling, power lines, antenna lines and CAT5/6 Cabling as needed
  • Cut, splice, and terminate wiring with correct endpoints and hardware as needed
  • Understand AC/DC voltage and power systems
  • Install power supplies, distribution panels, backup power systems and batteries
  • Maintain all company issued tools and equipment and ensure serviceability
  • Work closely with Service Coordinator to ensure timely completion of work
  • Assist Service Coordinator as needed with customer and job information
  • Assist other technicians with on-site installation
  • Adheres to all safety requirements and procedures – OSHA, Company and Customer standards
Job Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3 years of telecommunications experience preferred
  • Requires ability to move and or lift heavy objects, up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to climb ladders and operate elevating equipment
  • Driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required
  • Overnight travel within Virginia is required

Additional consideration for:

  • Technical training and certifications (OSHA, R56, Motorola, Kenwood, Harris, etc.)
  • Related military experience/MOS training

  • Ability to use laptop computer with programming software provided

Working Conditions

  • Ability to work business hours M-F 8:00am to 5:00pm with after hours and weekend work as required
  • Work is performed in the field and in an office or shop
  • Job may require employee to be exposed to inclement weather conditions (heat, snow, sleet, rain) or other work conditions by nature

Physical Requirements

  • The position requires driving, lifting, standing, and carrying.
  • Being able to place themselves into tight spaces, many of which are accomplished on their back and/or on a creeper as well as from a ladder
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to work with small fasteners or components
