Lead Diesel Technician
Location:Allegheny County PA
FT/PT Status:Full Time
  
Job Description:
  • Effectively plans and assigns maintenance and repair work.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and inspections on heavy truck chassis
  • Inspects and tests all work performed by subordinate level personnel to ensure quality of service performed and compliance with standard operating procedures, federal regulations, and emission regulations.
  • Performs journey-level repair work on wide variety of vehicles and equipment.
  • Assists equipment maintenance and repair personnel with extensive major overhauls and repairs to include engine, drive train, chassis, brakes, and hydraulics
  • Responds to emergency service calls and performs roadside repair.
  • Operates vehicles and equipment to diagnose and troubleshoot problems, and to test maintenance and repair work.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate work records of maintenance work.
  • Reports work status and special problems to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Requires and enforces strict adherence to OSHA, Company and Customer safety standards
  • Follows verbal and written instructions; meets schedule and attendance requirements; performs all physical requirements of position
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with managers, coworkers, and user departments
Job Qualifications:
  • Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to a minimum of five years’ experience as a journey-level mechanic in heavy duty equipment maintenance or repair
  • Valid commercial operator’s license required for heavy equipment; Must maintain CDL current during the period of employment. Six months relevant driving experience
  • Department of Transportation (DOT) health card
  • ASE Master Technician, Heavy Truck preferred
  • Working knowledge of all types of motor vehicles to be able to diagnose and repair equipment
  • Use and care of required tools and equipment; Must provide own tools and rollaway box
  • Lead/supervisory experience preferred
  • Graduation from an accredited technical school, apprentice program, or verified military schooling program teaching the mechanic trade
  • Must be able to perform all physical requirements of position
  • Basic computer skills required; Knowledge of fleet management system preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complete operational checks
  • Experience in troubleshooting and repair of engine assemblies, clutch assemblies, brakes, hydraulic systems, drive trains, transmissions, and electrical system.
  • Mig, tig, and arc welding fabrication
  • Outstanding technical knowledge, excellent people skills and focus on superior customer service.
  • Additional training for Hazardous Waste Accumulation, Pollution Prevention and other training related to the position may be required
  • Team player; ability to communicate effectively and work harmoniously with others.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English for a working knowledge of hazardous, safety, and environmental warnings, as per contract requirement.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Must be able to bend, stretch, twist, kneel and squat or reach with body, arms and/or legs to perform repairs and inspections
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times
  • Must be able to stand for long periods
  • Ability to climb in and out of vehicles
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to work with small fasteners or components
  • Ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects


Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
 

Must have clean drug screen and satisfactory background and MVR checks.
