Shenandoah Fleet Maintenance and Management, LLC, provides vehicle maintenance services to the 47th Flying Training Wing located at Laughlin Air Force Base (LAFB) in Del Rio, Texas. This project is operated as a subcontract under Akima Facilities Management Services, LLC with the principal mission of providing staffing for Akima’s transportation maintenance shop, as an integral part of its overall total base facilities maintenance and operations contract.
Under this multi-year subcontract, which was awarded in the fall of 2010 and began in December 2010, Shenandoah Fleet provides comprehensive maintenance services which include preventive maintenance, repairs, and paint and body work to the Air Force's vehicle fleet located at LAFB. More specifically, the fleet maintained includes fire apparatus (structural and aircraft crash/fire), refuelers, materiel handling equipment, and police vehicles. This fleet consists of approximately 150 Air Force-owned vehicles.
The airfield at Laughlin Air Force Base must be operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In order for this to be accomplished Shenandoah Fleet must maintain superb maintenance and management practices so that the vehicles, equipment and apparatus we are responsible for are available and in position at all times. It is critical that we meet these demands and for that reason, we have staff on call at all times.
In order to provide the highest level of quality service on this contract we have provided specialized staff, which includes a master technician, a specialized aircraft refueler technician, a fire apparatus technician and a paint and body specialist; all of which receive quality training and hold certifications.
